Kent Family Business Forum

Tuesday 29 May saw the launch of the Kent Family Business Forums at the Shepherd Neame brewery in Faversham, hosted by Family Business Place in conjunction with the Kent IoD and I was there to cover all of the action – before, during and after.

The event was held at the Brewery Store, which is part of the Shepherd Neame complex and acts as a stand-alone venue for events, seminars and concerts, and forms part of the brewery tour.

The evening started off with some open networking over a glass of wine or a pint of the Neame’s finest whilst the venue was filling up – a great opportunity for me to get some natural ‘through the crowd’ shots of the guests and a chance to meet the faces behind the names of the companies you hear of on a daily basis.
The four speakers for the evening took to the stage and were introduced by Anita Brightley-Hodges, Director of Family Business Place. Once each of them had given an insight in to their company history they were quizzed by the host and then by the audience – all family businesses themselves – asking all the burning questions on everyone’s lips, covering a whole host of topics from share structures to succession and from family disputes to what does the future hold for the next generation.

I think it’s really important to document events like these, so that the client can use the imagery in their marketing material going forward. It’s also great to have an archive of photos to call upon when launching the next event and to give your potential delegates a flavour for what they can expect at your event.
