Global Angels Concert 2011
Not everything we do in life is about getting – sometimes it’s about giving. I’m not talking about presents and gifts in a physical sense, I’m talking about something else – time. Time is something that, as a working photographer, I usually charge for, but when something worthwhile comes along it’s the least I can give.
Set up by Molly Bedingfield, the Global Angles Foundation is an international charity, championing the causes of disadvantaged children and their communities around the world. The difference is, they have a ‘100% PROMISE’. That promise is that 100% of all money raised will go to the causes that need it and will not be used in any way to cover admin fees and running costs of the charity (unlike some charities where as much as 60% of raised funds goes on running the charity!!).
Global Angels decided to have a VIP fund-raiser – a charity dinner, auction, awards ceremony and concert at a swanky London Hotel, no less. On the concert line up were Daniel Bedingfield, Natasha Bedingfield, Leona Lewis, Joss Stone and John Forté. Pretty impressive. Having it streamed live to the world via Facebook. Also pretty impressive.
Myself and four of my fellow photographers – Jeremy, Glen & Jason (RGB Digital) and Brad (UBPICS) all offered our services to shoot the event, covering everything from the concert to the ‘step-up’ platform. We even sent a sacrificial lamb in with the animals that are the paparazzi to cover the VIP red carpet shots (sorry Jase!!).
The concert was awesome and the whole night was a fantastic success raising over £90,000 on the night.
Personal highlight of the night: Meeting Bear Grylls
