The Many Faces of Michel Roux Jr.
The great thing about being a photographer is the opportunity to meet amazing people. Generation magazine, the leading magazine for UK family businesses, asked myself and fellow photographer Jeremy Baile of RGB Digital to go along with their Feature’s Editor to interview Michel Roux Jr who is now running his father’s restaurant, Le Gavroche.
Michel gives off quite a scary persona on Masterchef, but in the flesh he is a warm, welcoming guy just trying to make amazing food and run a restaurant. When we got to the restaurant he came up from downstairs and welcomed us in, introduced us to his team and showed us around the renowned Le Gavroche. As the journalist got talking to him and asking interview questions, we set up some great shots – some upstairs in the bar, others downstairs in the restaurant itself and finally we ventured into the kitchen!
Michel is obviously very at ease with the press and more than comfortable to pose for the camera. We came away with some incredible shots – one of which made the front cover of the magazine and the rest were included as part of the inside spread. We also got a cheeky signed book!
