Tokyo, Japan

I recently travelled to Japan and spent a week taking in the sights and sounds of Tokyo and all of it’s districts. On arriving, a few things hit you instantly; how big the place is, how clean everything is and how polite and humble everyone is.

The aim was to suck up as much of the local culture as possible and see as many things as I could in my short stay – photographing everything that either moved, didn’t move or tried to move!

Two things that, as a photographer, I love about Tokyo are the architecture (both old and new), and the people – especially their sense of fashion. There is such a great mix of old and new as you travel from district to district with everything from buildings to clothing. You can see Zen temples and high rise glass office blocks in the same street and also people wearing traditional white kimonos sitting next to someone in the latest trainers, jeans, fluorescent tee shirt and a baseball cap – such diversity.

I managed to cram a lot in to the week, seeing everything from the bustling nightlife of the city (including whole streets devoted to karaoke bars!) to ancient temples a little way out of town … and even stumbled upon a couple of traditional weddings!
